#1. About XTapes
Launched in 2010, a free tube site xTapes may not look like much, but underneath an unassuming layout hides a big collection of porn scenes and movies. All of which come from your favorite adult company names.
#2. First Impressions
Load it once, and XTapes.to will greet you with a dark, tight-looking design that makes its thumbnails stand out. They aren’t pixelated either, and the site has this “quality” feel. Yes, the layout and design of XTapes.to are nice, but sooner or later will come across quite a few pop-ups. So, use an ad blocker if you must. There’s no shame in killing those distracting and sneaky ads; just saying. I typically whitelist sites that aren’t too annoying, but XTapes.to has crossed the line.
The sidebar of XTapes shows a featured pornstar and some links to external sites. Oh, and the index page is rather basic. I’ve tried to move my mouse on top of every thumbnail, and they didn’t move. Therefore, you must commit to a click of a thumbnail showing the first signs of arousal. Unfortunately, that’s when you get the shitty ads. Do you think that’s bad? Wait till I talk about my streaming experience.
#3. Content & User Experience
XTapes visitors can surf through ~30,000 videos split into 20 categories. Guest users should see a variety of clips from PervMom, DigitalSin, AdultTime Studios, PrideStudios, Private, Wicked, etc. There are also around 7,000 free gay porn videos which have their specific categories. However, the best thing about XTapes is that you get full scenes and lots of full movies instead of teasers and short clips. Moreover, quality is decent, and in many cases HD as you cannot change streaming quality or download videos.
When you get it right, videos stream smoothly, and buffering is never an issue. Even when skipping back and forth on a longer scene. Other useful features include comments and ratings while sorting content, a few filters, and a basic search. There’s also a list of top networks and sites whose full movies you can find here.
Finally, here comes the most important part! It doesn’t matter how many clips or pornstars XTubes has. Here’s my “user experience” of the site: it sucks. You hit on a thumbnail, and pop-under loads; that’s annoying but fine. Now, I’ve clicked on a video player to stream a video, and another tab opened with more ads. The video is not yet playing. So, I click it again, and the same thing happens again. Four clicks and the same number of clicks to close ads later, the stream has finally begun! So, I hit quality control gear only to get another ad and accidentally close the whole tab. That was it. I bet even XTubes creators don’t visit its site to watch porn because there’s no way a sane human will withstand the torture of 10 ads. That’s not all! As soon as the first ads closed, a new kind of “banner” appeared in the top right corner that suggested some articles. Yeah, how about no?
#4. Conclusion
XTapes could’ve been a great free tube site. Instead, it’s almost unusable due to garbage ads, all kinds of attention-stealing banners and other junk.
